One of the most spectacular parks in New Jersey are the Palisades along the Hudson River. James and Courtney braved the high cliffs for their fun, summertime engagement session.
How did you meet?
Courtney: We met in college at a bar. Actually, on the very same night one of our groomsmen fell and broke his nose. This unfortunate circumstance landed us in a cab ride together to the ER. Although you typically wouldn’t call a night out successful if it ends at the hospital, after more than seven years together you can say that we made the most out of the situation. We do hope to avoid any interruptions, such as trips to the ER, on our wedding night. We will be keeping a short leash on said groomsman
Does your significant other have any cute quirks? Do Tell?!
Courtney: If you scratch James’ back, he will giggle almost uncontrollably. It is reminiscent of a baby when they have a full belly laugh!!
What is your proposal story?
Courtney: We were down the shore for memorial day at his parents’ shore house with his family. His nephews were asking me to go with them to the park and I told James I would meet them later because I wanted to stay at the house. Truthfully i wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to have some quiet moments to myself 🙂 His nephews kept begging me and finally they left after I said I just needed a bit more time and would come soon. His dad then came in and told me the boys wanted me. He was a bit directive about it. At that point I was starting to get annoyed that I needed to “babysit” and that no one would let me relax!
Sure enough I get to the park, which was by a dock off the bay, and James was pacing around. I started to think that something could be up. The few months before the proposal, I had triedso hard to figure it out. I told myself now I was reading into things too much. We took a walk on the dock and his brother pulled his nephews and cousin away so we could have a private moment. Meanwhile in the water was his other brother’s friend in their neighbor’s row boat taking pictures “incognito” from the water and I had no idea!! He got down on one knee and we got some really sweet shots to capture the special moment. When we walked back to his house my family was already there to surprise us and we spent the rest of the day celebrating with friends and family.
